An actor is a person who represents a character in a performance. Actors typically act in stage productions, live-action movies, TV shows, and commercials, but voice actors also appear in radio broadcasts, animated movies, and podcasts. An actor's main responsibility is usually to perform, either in front of a live audience or in front of a camera. However, there are additional duties an actor must perform before, during, and after the performance itself. Here are some typical daily responsibilities of an actor:
Attend Auditions And Castings:
Acting is a competitive industry. Attending auditions and castings gives you more opportunities to perform for local directors and decision makers. This is likely to increase your chances of finding a job and help you build confidence as an actor.
Study And Rehearse Scripts:
Actors spend time memorizing lines, rehearsing stunts, and brainstorming stage directions before performing in front of an audience or camera.
Learn More About Roles:
If you have accepted an acting job, it may be helpful to research the associated location or time period. For example, if you're acting in a play set in medieval England, reading historical accounts from the Middle Ages can help you understand what your character's life would have been like.
Apply For A Secondary Job, If Necessary:
If you're just starting out as an actor, chances are you don't have a full-time income yet. In this case, you may need to work a side job to support yourself while you build up enough experience and grow your network big enough to live off your acting income. Actors often take flexible, short-term jobs such as substitute teachers, waiters, and freelance writers to supplement their income.
