What Types Of Professional Dancers Are There ? - Modelfactory

There are three types of professional dancers: professional dancers, company dancers, and dance teachers. While there are certainly dance gigs and opportunities that fall outside those categories, most dance careers tend to follow one of these tracks:

Commercial Dancers:

As the name suggests, commercial dancers make a living by dancing in commercial projects. This includes tourism, music videos, movies, industry, cruise ships, music and, yes, actual advertising. Commercial dancers are freelancers and work on a project-by-project basis. The upside of this is that it means a lot of freedom and flexibility. As with all freelance work, the downside is that it can be sporadic and there's always a hustle involved in finding the next gig.

Company Dancers:

Company dancers are hired by the same company they perform with (often for years on end). This type of work is more stable and-for dancers with musical specialties such as ballet-can be a rewarding option.

Dance Teacher:

Don't let the old adage "those who can't teach" get in here. Teaching dance means as much as working professionally as a dancer. If you decide to teach (either as a side job or as a full-time career), there are many paths available to you, from establishing yourself as an independent instructor to working in a school. There is also a lot of variety in the level of dance classes you can choose to teach, from toddler or beginner classes to high level college or dance academy instruction.
